Hynds AI Governance Pulse

How exposed is your business to the AI it already runs?

In about 8 minutes, get a scored report card on your AI governance: policy, visibility, vendors, people, and what happens when something goes wrong.

24 questions · Six domains · Built on the NIST AI Risk Management Framework · Free and anonymous

You’re already using AI. Is anyone governing it?

AI rarely arrives as one big project. It shows up a piece at a time:

  • Your CRM turns on AI lead scoring.
  • Your ERP vendor adds a “predictive” module.
  • An employee pastes customer details into a chatbot to write a proposal.

No one decided to adopt AI, but it’s running, and it’s touching your data, your customers, and your decisions.

The AI Pulse shows you where you stand, in plain language, before a vendor contract, a customer complaint, or a bad automated decision shows you the hard way.

Six domains, scored 0–100

The first four come from the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the federal standard that regulators, procurement teams, and insurers increasingly reference. The last two are areas we’ve added because they’re where small and mid-sized businesses are most exposed.

What it looks like in practice

Illustrative examples, not real companies.

A small manufacturer

AI lead scoring in the CRM, a predictive inventory module the ERP vendor switched on, and salespeople using ChatGPT on customer specs. No policy and no inventory of what’s running.

Expect low Govern and Map scores.

An independent insurance agency

A carrier or vendor tool uses AI in quoting or underwriting. No one has asked how the model was trained, how it’s monitored, or what happens when its output is wrong.

Expect low Measure and Vendors scores.

A professional services firm

Staff use AI for drafting and research, client information included. No training, no guidance, no incident plan.

Expect low People & Culture and Manage scores.

Who it’s for

Owners and leaders of businesses doing roughly $5M–$100M in revenue that use AI anywhere in the business, knowingly or not. It’s especially useful if you’re in a regulated or trust-based industry like insurance, financial services, or healthcare, or if a customer, insurer, or acquirer has started asking about your AI practices.

A low score isn’t a failure. It’s a starting point.

Most businesses score low somewhere, because almost no one has been asked these questions before. Your weakest domains tell you exactly where to start.

If you want help with them, the next step is a conversation. If it makes sense from there, John Hynds will come out for an in-person assessment of how your business runs and where AI fits, governed properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it really free and anonymous?

Yes. The Pulse runs on this site, with no login and no email required to see your scorecard. If you’d like a copy emailed to you, you can enter an address after you see your results.

How long does it take?

About 8 minutes for 24 questions.

Is this a NIST certification?

No. The Hynds AI Governance Pulse is built on the structure of the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and extended with vendor and workforce domains. It’s a self-assessment, not an audit or a certification, and it isn’t endorsed by NIST.

Will I see how I compare to other companies?

Not yet. We’ll add industry comparisons once enough companies in each sector have taken it to make the comparison meaningful.

What happens to my answers?

Your answers are stored without your name or company attached, and are used only in aggregate, for example to build industry comparisons. If you choose to have your scorecard emailed to you at the end, that email address and company name are stored with your responses so we can send it. Nothing is sold or shared.

We’re a small company. Does this apply to us?

Yes. A 10-person company with an AI chatbot on its website or AI features in its software has the same kinds of exposure as a larger one, often with less in place to manage it.

What does Hynds AI do with low scores?

We help you fix the ones that matter most: putting a practical AI policy in place, mapping what’s running, reviewing vendor terms, and building AI systems with controls designed in from the start.
